Otome Games: Yo-Jin-Bo {The Bodyguards}

February 7, 2010

!!!SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

Hey Everyone!

Guess what? I just starte playing the Otome game ‘Yo-Jin-Bo’. It’s one of the few that was translated into english from Japanese and actually realised; and I must say, it’s amazing.

Not only is the art actually pretty decent for a PC game, but it was also made about 5-6 years ago. The music is pretty, and each character has certian songs just for his chapter. There are 6 ‘good’, ‘sad’ and ‘bad’ endings. And in order to get all of the graphics and music, you need to do all endings. — Though I have heard that one of the images and 3 music bits are usually missing after you complete them all. So their must be some sort of hidden event that no one has found yet. — I wouldn’t know since I’ve only done 3 good events so far (Yo, Jin and Bo’s).

My thoughts on the game are so far nothing but positive; except that the game is way to short. The introduction scenes are to long and always the same; but aside from that that game is nothing but good.

The dialog changes a for each story when you have to separate from the rest of the group. So everything after that (wth the exception of the final battle) is different in each story. Now there is a chapter called ‘Fork In The Road’, and boy the title couldn’t be anymore literal. This is the chapter that decides if you are good enough to go on with the game. If you answered anything wrong through the last 4-5 chapters (it varies with certian character routes), then you will instantly be killed in the ‘Fork In The Road’ chapter no matter which answer you choose. Harsh much? — It took me like 4-5 hours to figure out what the fuck I was doing wrong. xD

Based on what I have played so far. My fav character is Yo, and his is also my favorite route. Not that I didn’t like Jin or Bo’s route (in fact all 3 of them had amazingly beautiful/sweet endings); but Yo’s to me stood out a lot. Unlike Jin and Bo’s endings which were heart-warming reunitations(?), Yo’s ending was our characters decision to stay with him. Plus I’d say Yo’s route had one of the sweetest and absolutly gorgeous confession scenes out of the main 3. Jin’s is a very close 2nd, but something about falling through the sky holding hands and kissing mid air is just so romantic! <3 …Closely followed by falling into a bunch of trees (Kiki’s Delivery Service anyone?).

Overall I’m really enjoying this game. I wish it was longer, or that they would translate more of them into english; sadly it won’t happen since I think the company that translated the Otome games into english went bankrupt. — Funny thing is they prolly wouldn’t have gona bankrupt if they had advertised that they were translating these gamesĀ in the first place! They don’t know just how many females who don’t speak japanese wuld love to get their hands on games like these. So a message to all companies who ever decide to translate Otome games — ADVERTISE.

{IMPORTANT}

I plan to do walk-through posts on each characters route. First will be Yo’s route (just cuz). <3
